Riding the NYC Subway while Pregnant

by Laurie Henzel

“Can I please sit down?” Check out the poster that graphic designer (and former BUST Art Director) Elizabeth Carey Smith from The Letter Office created based on her four month survey of riding the rails of the MTA while pregnant. Using graphs and pie charts, Smith tracked the number of seats offered on certain trains, breaking it down by gender, train line and time of day. It’s not surprising that some trains were worse than others, and that out of 108 rides, she was offered a seat 88 of those times. So next time you see a pregnant lady on the train, dont be a jerk, offer up your seat! Remember, your mom was pregnant once too!
