Guerilla Knitting + The Standard? Oh yes!

by Web Intern

If you’ve never heard of KnittaPlease, do yourself a favor and look them up…now! Trust me, any group that yarn-bombs is worth a Google-search.

The Austin, TX group, founded by Magda Saveg in 2005, is all about adding warmth to cold, lifeless concrete and steel structures with their handmade yarn creations. Not only that, Saveg and her fellow knitters are trying to redefine this craft because it is often pushed aside or seen as ‘that thing old women’ do in their spare time. Come on, the young-ins like to knit as well, people! And…more than just blankets and scarves are the products of this craft!

What I love about this group is that they’ll be tagging The Standard Hotel in NY for Fashion Week. There, they’ll be emphasizing the intersections between textile art, design, craft, street culture and the DIY movement. After discovering The Standard on a recent hike through the Meatpacking District, I will definitely be back to check out the knitting graffiti.

Check it out Sept. 9-17
