Amanda Seyfried rose to prominence as the girl who was blessed with ESPN boobs in Tina Fey’s brilliant Mean Girls.
She was just shy of 20 when the movie blew up, and now, almost a decade later, her career has all but followed the same progression.
Between her turn as flaxen-haired, honey-voiced Cosette in the critically acclaimed Les Miserables, and her upcoming role as porn star Linda Lovelace – Ms. Deep Throat herself, Seyfried is unquestionably killing it.
With such audacious roles under her belt, it’s refreshing to see that Seyfried is equally bold and good-humored in real life. By which I mean, she loves a good vagina joke!
In her most recent ELLE interview, Seyfried opens up about her love life, and the importance of considering her vagina’s feelings when embarking on a relationship: “Everybody I’ve dated I’ve been sexually attracted to immediately. Sparks don’t grow – your vagina doesn’t become more inclined to wanting someone just because you’re around them.”
When Les Mis co-star Anne Hathaway had a wardrobe malfunction down there (which everyone made a really big deal about, causing Hathaway to fire back with awesome feminist fury), Seyfried had no comment to offer the paparazzi than a particularly cheeky, “I’m a fan of underwear only because it keeps me warm.”
It seems Seyfried’s also a fan of method acting, as she references how playing Linda helped her manage the demanding soprano role in Les Mis. “Imagine deep-throating a penis, get that feeling in the back of your throat, and then sing. That’s where your larynx is.” After dropping that particular gem, Seyfried admits she doesn’t have an edit button. She’s unabashed and courageous, not bothering to hide under an impeccably constructed public persona.
She’s done shots with Letterman, announcing that she imbibes in liquid courage before every talk show, and even popped some Lexapro in front an Esquire interviewer, while admitting that she struggles with anxiety. Seyfried might just be living true to herself, but her unguarded honesty – particularly about mental health – is beneficial in raising awareness about these issues, and dissolving some of the stigma that still surround them.
Seyfried is also the proud bearer of my favorite Hollywood tattoo, the single word minge emblazoned on her foot. Minge is defined as a British slang term for the woman’s genitals. “It means vagina and [I’m] kind of proud of it,” she says. “It’s my nickname. It has something to do with your pubic hair in the dictionary.”
Why the tat? Apparently it’s partly inspired by Colin Firth, who taught her the word on the set of Mamma Mia, where she fell in love with it. “It’s to make me laugh, and every time I look at it I do.” Hell yeah, girl! Do you.
