Tina Fey Stripped Down To Spanx On Letterman And Made A Really Important Point

by PRINCESS WEEKES

Being “beautiful” is a lot of work and sometimes the things we wear to look good can almost seem medieval. Tina Fey, on her last appearance on “Late Show with David Letterman” the lovely former BUST cover girl stripped down to her Spanx just to show what goes on underneath pretty clothing.

Proclaiming this to be her last fancy dress (because who dresses up for Jimmy?), Fey took the time to properly model her blue number. “Since is my last time wearing a fancy dress on a talk show and conforming to gender norms out of respect for you,” she said, “my gift to you is I want to give you the dress.”

Fey then stripped down revealing her Spanx and a black leotard with “BYE DAVE” on the front and “#LASTDRESSEVER” on the back. While funny, Fey’s message is crystal clear: Underneath all those pretty ensembles is a lot of work that women have to put into looking the way society expects them too.

From corsets to waist trainers to Spanx, there is always something on the market offering women the chance to fit into the ideal package of what it means to be attractive. While we definitely think women should dress in whatever makes them feel comfortable, gender norms encourage us to look as appealing as possible on the outside even if we are suffering on the inside.  Even the most enlightened of us want to look good, but sometimes the price sometimes too high (and really too damn restrictive?).
