Maybe it’s the end of a grueling work-day, if you have a work-day. If you’re on the East Coast, there’s a sporting chance you’ll be caught in a tepid drizzle-storm the next time you leave a building. Hey, maybe there’s nothing in the fridge! Maybe you’ve got to invoice or read the ever-traumatic newspaper or do something else taxing with your evening hours, when all you really want to do is curl up in the deepest part of the deepest couch and ignore all the phone calls. In the off-chance that you see yourself in any part of this equation, I have some ideas to ease your troubled mind. And if the Internet is good for anything, it’s a) solidarity before doldrums and b) lists.
So if you’re cranky/fussy/bored/curious, here are some tips. Things to do, see, feel, think. All suggestions, mind. Oh, and if you haven’t gathered? I have an Oprah complex. Happy Thursday.
Something to listen to: The tUnE-yArDs’ new album is out and about and ready for your listening pleasure! And hint? It’s super good. If you like zany, female-led Afropunky-experimental-psychedial-joy, you will like this.
Something to poke your nose in: Did you hear that a treasure trove of Jackie Kennedy’s secret letters to a priest confidante were recently recovered, and made semi-public? They’re supposed to be full of juicy confessions…

Something to read: Leslie Jamison’s new book of essays, The Empathy Exams, is an exciting new composite of scientific and emotional inquiry. Jamison tries to get to the bottom of several lingering human questions, among them: what is the value (and use) of human empathy? Really lovely prose, and really lovely ideas. This BUSTie highly recommends.
Something to attempt: I’m about the farthest one can get from a competent chef, but on rainy days, I get hankerings. Maybe it’s the whisper of summer in the air, maybe it’s the fact that I’m never not hungry…but wouldn’t it be COOL if I were the kind of woman who could make bona fide Shrimp n’ Grits? Here’s a really good recipe, for the more adventurous.
Something to giggle at: In honor of the recent viral hit, “#Selfie,” sketch group Pop Roulette has brought the Internet down with a new spoof. “#Daguerrotype” is pretty self-explanatory, but about as funny as one could imagine:
Something to do on a lark: mock up the screenplays for Disney spin-offs starring the various villainesses. Think Maleficent. What, for instance, would Ursula’s movie be like? Where did the Sea Witch come from? This is for those in need of a creative jumpstart.

Even if cover girl Shailene recently tripped out of our good graces with a foot in mouth remark re: feminism, that doesn’t mean we can’t sob watching The Fault in Our Stars trailer. All may yet be forgiven:
