Recently, the West Virginia House of Delegates debated a horrible bill that would restrict abortion access for women after 20 weeks of pregnancy, even if the pregnancy was a result of rape. In an attempt to justify the idea that the women who become pregnant during a rape should also not be allowed to have abortions, somebody let Rep. Brian Kurcaba open his mouth. This is what came out…
“Obviously rape is awful.” Good opener, Delegate.
He continues with “For somebody to take advantage of somebody else in such a horrible and terrifying and brutal way is absolutely disgusting, but…”
“… what is beautiful is the child that could come as a production of this.”
Hey Kurcaba, you know what is more beautiful? A person getting to control their own life.
Kurcaba later apologized, saying, “Anyone who took my comments about the sanctity of human life to mean anything other than that all children are precious regardless of circumstances.”
The group WVFREE, a group dedicated to the protection of reproduction rights of West Virginia, is fighting against the bill as well as Kurcaba’s extremely insensitive statements. To learn more about WVFREE, visit there website here.
