This Hilarious Video Skewers Tampon Commercial Tropes

by Myra Pearson

In June, a product aimed at reducing period pains began crowdfunding on Indiegogo. Livia delivers a pulse to your pelvis thatdisrupts the pain signals being sent to your ladyparts, and is adjustable for varying levels of discomfort. According to the company website, Livia “tunes into the wavelength frequency of your menstrual pain and blocks the pain from registering in your body.”

As medical advisor and doctor at the Women’s Hospital in Beilinson Prof. Bari Kaplan explains, “over 50% of women suffer primary menstrual cramps, for which they consume large amounts of painkillers. Livia uses a pain relief method that does not involve drug consumption. The idea is to close the ‘pain gates.’ The method Livia uses has been proven effective in several clinical studies and I strongly recommend the use of the device to relieve PMS at any time.”

The campaign has been a huge success, so far having raised an impressive 1,340% of their goal. That has to be at least in part due to the hilarious video posted to Livia’s Indiegogo page (created by Tross Creative House), which takes a jab at those typical tampon commercials — you know, how it’s so glorious to ride a bike, or go swimming, or lie on white sheets while you’re surfing the crimson wave.
