Pregnant Newscaster Shares Hate Mail About Her On-Air Outfits

by PRINCESS WEEKES

Being pregnant doesn’t spare women from the constant criticism about their bodies. In some cases, people feel the need to critique them even more, as newscaster Kristi Gordon has noticed.

This isn’t Gordon’s first time dealing with rude comments. Her experience from her first pregnancy was so bad that after announcing her current one, she asked people to “be nice” to her.

In a small segment on Global News, Gordon took the time to address some of the letters she has received regarding her body: “Nowhere on North America TV have we seen a weather reader so gross as you. Your front end looks like the Hindenburg and your rear end looks like a brick [fill in the blank] house.”

Another letter said,  “Buy some decent clothes and have some respect for your unborn child.” So we should show respect to the unborn child, but not to the woman who is pregnant. Funny huh?

What is even more depressing is how everyone feels entitled to have something to say about Gordon’s style of clothing saying she should wear “looser tops.” Sorry, but there is no loose top in the world—sans a literally muu-muu—that is going to stop a woman from looking pregnant. Besides, if Gordon showed up wearing some oversized top we can guarantee that people would have something to say about that too.

Gordon said that while she is a confident person, she did have some subconscious insecurities because, shocker, she’s a human being with feelings.

She released a typed statement on Global News saying that, “No matter how rational or confident you are, the mean things people say can have an impact. The negative thoughts seep in when you don’t even realize it. Even a little joking comment could do some damage. Hopefully this can help us all be more aware of our impact on others.”

Hopefully, but considering the culture we live in, highly unlikely.
