It seems that every subway car I enter, every typical women’s magazine I browse through, every article about shoes I glance at, a leggy ad (or mention) for the new shoe wonder, FitFlop, is staring back at me in all its glossy glory. The ad itself is intriguing…a shoe with a gym built right in? Whaaaaaa? According to the FitFlop website, these little gems have been biomechanically engineered to: increase leg, calf and gluteal muscle activity, improve your posture, mimic the gait of barefoot walking but with more muscle load, and improve muscle tone.
I just don’t know how I feel about this shoe. On one hand I’m excited because hey, anything that helps my stems (oh Clueless vocab!) is a lovely thing in my book. On the other hand, I kind of feel that this is just a new wonder product advertised towards people who don’t want to put forth any physical effort towards a better physique. Then, I think to myself, you do have to walk to get the true benefit of these somewhat odd looking shoes. And, sorry for the rambling, a part of me thinks that I should be able to walk wherever I want without having to think about my glutes and other muscles I’m working. Can’t I just walk anymore?! Ei yi yi! Maybe if a design comes out that’s cuter than what they’re currently sportin’ (these look exactly like the sandals my mom wears on vacation!), I’d give these booties a try if I feel my body needs an extra boost.
ta ta!
