Indian Teen Has To Film Her Own Rape To Convince Her Mother To Believe Her

by Meghan Sara

When her father offered to teach her how to ride his motorcycle, his 14-year-old daughter in Utter Pradesh in Northern India followed him to a nearby field where he raped her. She told her mother about it that very day, but her mother refused to believe her.

The abuse continued for four years, even after the girl moved to nearby Orai to obtain a graduate degree in nursing. Her father continued to rape her, and her mother continued to dismiss her daughter’s claims. According to the Hindustan Times, the mother told police “I scolded her every time she told me; I couldn’t believe a man could do something like this to her own daughter.”

“I told my mother two months ago again, she thought I was making stories,” the girl told the Hindustan Times.

Desperate for a way to prove her rape claims to her mother, the girl hatched a plan. She travelled from Orai to a friend’s house in Jhansi, and gave her father a call telling him her whereabouts, knowing he would travel the distance to come rape her. Horrifyingly, he did, but this time, the girl’s friend filmed the entire attack from behind a door. The girl had irrefutable proof of her father’s attacks.

When she showed the footage to her mother, she was finally convinced: “When she showed me the clip on mobile, I was numb and collapsed. Then I took her to the police and asked her to register a criminal case. I won’t ever forgive him nor will I ever try to extend legal help,” the girl’s mother told police. According to the police, when the father was brought to the police station, the mother lunged at him, attacking him with her slippers.

The girl, who endured four years of rape at the hands of her father, declared “I want public execution of my father; an example needs made out of him.”

The father told a deputy police supervisor that he blamed alcohol for making him abuse his daughter, telling circle officer Jang Bahadur “Sharab ne kara di galti (Alcohol made me commit this wrong).”

The girl was praised by police for her courage in bringing her abuser to justice. According to Bahadur, ““The accused has been sent to jail; she is a brave girl, it takes lot of courage to expose her father the way she did.”
