Frances Bean Cobain is now a model — though don’t count on her to do it full time.
Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love’s daughter — now 24! — is the new face of Marc Jacobs. Shot by David Sims, this campaign marks the first time the brand has been represented by a single face in four years.
Marc Jacobs released a photo on social media today, showing Frances in a sheer babydoll dress; Frances also shared a behind-the-scenes photo on social media, showing herself in a Clockwork Orange tee.
But don’t count on seeing Frances on the runway anytime soon.
“I don’t think I’ll be modeling for anybody else for a very long time—this is 100 percent outside my comfort zone,” she told Vogue.com. “I wouldn’t have done it with anyone other than Marc.”
Marc elaborated on why he chose Frances in an Instagram post:
“I first met Frances Bean when she was 2 years old at a dinner with her mom (Courtney) and Anna Sui in 1994 at Bar Six in NYC. I have always wanted to work with Frances. Her beauty, uniqueness, and strength is something I have long admired and respected.”
In the Vogue.com interview, Frances also said — gasp! — she does not care about the ‘90s:
“I don’t fucking care what they did in the ’90s; I wasn’t around and it’s not relevant to me. Yes, the ’90s were influential, for sure, but it’s just not my cup of tea. When it’s shoved down your throat every day for 24 years, you just stop caring.
“I find it interesting where grunge originated from, and then where it was taken, which was high fashion. My dad was so poor that they kept going to Goodwill to get donated ripped jeans. It wasn’t a fashion decision; it was an ‘I don’t have any money, I have no other choice’ type of decision.”
