Fire This Jerk: CNN’s Erick Erickson Refers To DNC As “Vagina Monologues”

by Kaitlin Cole

During the Democratic National Convention, double-named CNN contributor Erick Erickson tweeted, “First night of the Vagina Monologues in Charlotte going as expected.” Apparently this guy doesn’t know the difference between Eve Ensler’s blockbuster play and a convention full of well-spoken female politicians. (Here’s a hint: the former involves a lot more mentions of clitoris and labia). To give you more evidence of this guy’s distaste for women in politics–and probably women who speak, in general–Erickson defended Rush Limbaugh after his verbal attack on Sandra Fluke earlier this year. He also blamed women for the United States’ military intervention in Libya, saying, “By the way, it’s the women’s fault…It’s, apparently, the women in the Obama administration who have decided we needed to go to war in Libya…But this is like women drivers. We’re going to war in Libya, we have no plan, we have no map.” Woman-driver jokes! If Erick Erick(son) takes a time machine back to 1985, he might have a very successful stand-up career.

He’s clearly a chump making an effort to muster up some publicity, but that doesn’t mean that this chump should have such a broad platform. The women’s rights group UltraViolet is petitioning for CNN to fire Erickson. Idiotic comments like these are completely unnecessary and definitely not okay. If you think CNN should hand this misogynist a pink slip, you can sign the petition here.
