Did You Know The Golden Girls Theme Is a Real Song?

Although “Thank You for Being a Friend” is pretty much perfect for the vibes of NBC’s beloved Golden Girls, the song was not actually written specifically for the show. The original song was written by Andrew Gold in 1978. The voice we hear during the intro is Cynthia Fee, who re-recorded the song for the show, which premiered in September of 1985. Listening to the original is kind of mind-blowing, so let’s start this weirdfest by reminding ourselves of the less-than-a-minute-long intro…
