Craftacular Sneak Peek: CaraCruz

by Amalia Graziani

When it comes to handcrafted anything, a good background story goes a long way. When budgets and access force us to choose mass produced items, the intricacy and personality that comes through in a piece that has been labored over by another’s hands can speak volumes. Such is the case with the designing duo behind jewelry line CaraCruz.

Jimena is the yin to Tania’s yang. CaraCruz, in Spanish, meaning HeadsTails. Two transplants from small Argentinian communities, there is a daring playfulness both in the way they describe themselves and in the pieces they make. With each collection, the pair chooses to focus on a striking moment or impression. Their collections are inspired by the landscapes, people and cultures of their past and present:

The FOLK line is inspired in the two landscapes that shaped these two artists respective imaginations as they were growing up: the countryside for Jimena and the sea for Tania. These are playful, fun and dynamic pieces, centered around charms and chains. The movements, textures and colors evoke the crest of a wave, the edges in a shoreline, the smoothness of a grass field, the soft contours of the pampas.

Tania, an academic and accidental aesthete (“fashion just ‘happened one day,’ perhaps against all odds”) and Jimena, a cutting edge lover of fashion. Their collaboration caught them both by surprise, and their creative journey could be similarly described as a series of playful adventures and surprises.

They write-

They say that opposites attract each other and somehow that’s true for these two artists. Somehow, some form of loveliness comes out of the unique combinations that these two creative spirits and their four hardworking hands set out to choose.

CaraCruz expertly balances delicate design with daring playfulness, revealing their personalities and telling a story with every piece. What more could you want from a handmade treasure?
