Call Girl cracks America

by Team Intern

I lovelovelovelovelove Billie Piper, the sexy blonde from across the pond who stars in the UK’s "Secret Diary of a Call Girl," so even though I have already seen the show’s first season in its entirety, I have been eagerly awaiting its Showtime premiere (tonight at 10:30 PM ET/PT) for some time now.

Though a lot of people have compared Call Girl, a show about life as a London prostitute, to "Sex and the City," the similarities between the two shows pretty much end at a) there’s sex and b) they take place in cities.

For one thing, Belle/Hannah (Billie’s character) doesn’t have a group of gal pals to bounce off of, which makes a world of difference as Hannah tries to find balance between "normal" life and her secret nighttime alter ego. This makes the pace and dynamic of the show somewhat slower than SATC. (The first few episodes of the series have some really unnecessary and long montages of Hannah sitting there sad and lonely.) But there is still plenty of wit, drama, and, yes, sex that makes Call Girl a worthy watch (with an awesome soundtrack to boot).

Cheers, Intern Lysa
