Breaking News: Men Take Up Too Much Space on the Train

by Katie Fustich

There is one global epidemic that has yet to be classified by the World Health Organization. You probably see it everywhere, every day and never realize it! Its symptoms include a slouched posture, spread knees, and an iPhone that is likely opened to the final level of Angry Birds. The official diagnosis? Men Taking Up Too Much Space on the Train-itosis.

One fantastic tumblr has taken it upon themselves to document this horrible condition so that people around the world can know that they are not alone in the struggle. Here are a few prime examples of the footage (be warned…these are images of a serious medical condition and are not for the faint of heart):

Comparison of acceptable leg room by gender.

This picture breaks my heart…you can see the pure agony in his face as he desperately tries to overcome this condition.

Upon surveying several of my male compatriots about the prevalence of this condition, they collectively agree it is brought about by a certain part of the male anatomy commonly referred to as “balls.” One 20-year-old lad noted “Girls just don’t get it—if you sit any other way it’s just so uncomfortable.” By this logic, however, shouldn’t every woman be walking around with arms constantly outstretched, just because, you know, any other way is just oh so uncomfortable?

The subtitle of the aforementioned tumblr really sums things up: “A Classic Among Public Assertions of Privilege.” It looks like, until a cure is found for this terrible disease, we ladies will have to be supportive of the opposite gender by being forced to occupy as little physical space as possible.

It’s beautiful to see two friends be so supportive of each other in these difficult times!

This woman is setting an example we can all follow–being crushed into a tiny, uncomfortable corner for the sake of the clearly suffering man to her left!
