This Women-Run Company Wants To Diversify Content Creation

by Addison Herron-Wheeler

Women are poised to rule the world in the business space, but as we step up and into femme-powered leadership roles, it’s important to make sure diversity is a key consideration. Amanda Russo, chief strategist and VP of events for Babes Who Create – a rapidly growing network of content creators – knows that to be true, so we picked her brain about how to be more inclusive to folks of all kinds in the business sector.

Why was it so important for you, a woman’s organization, to put a focus on diversity and inclusion? How can women’s organizations be more inclusive?

It’s important for us to focus on diversity and inclusion because, as women, we already know how it feels to be discriminated against and have to fight with every fiber of our being for equal treatment, equal rights, equal pay, and for our voices to be heard. And so, we should be fighting not only for ourselves, but all other disadvantaged groups who may have suffered even more because of the color of their skin, or their religion, or [sexual orientation].

Babes Who Create, Inc. has worked hard to create a platform that is open and inclusive to all women, but we realize there is still more work to do in amplifying minority voices, which is why we formed our diversity and inclusion committee to help advise and guide us. We encourage other women’s organizations to take similar initiatives, and take more time to listen to their platform and share the spotlight as much as possible because we all have important messages and experiences that deserve to be heard.

What are some of the major goals you want to achieve in 2021?

We are so excited to re-launch our events platform in 2021 with a focus on bringing the community together once again in real life – as soon as it’s deemed safe by health officials, of course. We know the quarantine and lockdown have taken their toll on all of us, and while our new, virtual events platform has been a wonderful way to keep our communities connected, it’s not the same as being able to laugh, talk, dance, shake hands, hug, and mingle with each other face-to-face.

It’s particularly important for connecting with our brand partners and helping them share their products and services with their target markets. And so, we will move forward with our flagship festival event, BABETOPIA, in 2021, and will slowly go back to our original business model of offering our members monthly in-person meetups and collaborations where they can connect with other content creators and brand partners.

Is there anything special you want to highlight or include right now?

Now that we have upgraded our technology and moved all of our membership benefits to a virtual format for the remainder of the year, we are thrilled to announce that the Babes Who Create, Inc. membership is available to ALL female content creators throughout the U.S.! Regardless of where they’re located, we can place all new members into a regional group where they will have full access to virtual events, discussion groups, chat and video capabilities, online polls, resource library, incentives/contests, collaboration sign-ups, and more!
