Amanda Seales Can’t Control Her Face as a Dude Mansplains Catcalling

by Audrey Cerchiara

CNN anchor Fredricka Whitfield was joined by comedian Amanda Seales and writer Steven Santagati to respond to last week’s viral cat catcalling video. Santagati, author of The Manual: A True Bad Boy Explains How Men Think, Date, and Mate, is a self-proclaimed expert on the psychology of catcalling, so he offers gems like this:

“I can’t get into a woman’s head … but I’m a guy and I know why these guys do this […] There is nothing more that a woman loves to hear than how pretty she is.”

And Seales and Whitfield respond like this:

amanda seales

It’s the usual from a guy who does not understand that casually objectifying women on a daily basis creates a sexualized environment that we in the biz call rape culture. He even suggests that if a woman feels uncomfortable, “…she should turn around and tell them to shut up; stand up for yourself!” Spoken like someone who has never felt unsafe in his life (Seales enlightens him about … violence). Getting men to understand what it really feels like to be catcalled would start to make public spaces safer for all genders, sexualities, races, and ages.

Can someone please make Amanda Seales’ perfect faces into emojis?
