Am I taking things too seriously?

by Intern Brittany J.

I really like lists. I also really like The Frisky. So when I saw this article pop up in my newsletter a couple days ago, I couldn’t help but click. Kinda just thought I’d send it along to my boyfriend, make him chuckle a bit, maybe I’d get a few laughs out of it myself. Hmph.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you…my inner monologue:
“Hm…
Oh…Ha ha…
That’s clever…
Oh, that’s silly…

Uh…
Hm.
Um, no.

Nope.

Wow, nope, not even close.”

And so on and so forth.

Clearly, I was not too stoked about this list. Boo. I thought I was being a little overdramatic, perhaps. It was a joke, yes? I’m usually the first to say, “don’t take things so seriously!” When some people started freaking out about Amanda Palmer’s video for the song Oasis (and basically just the content of the song in general), I defended the hell out of it. I remember her saying something about how if you don’t learn to laugh at things, you begin to let them control you. I definitely tend to subscribe to such philosophy. (Of course there are exceptions…there are ALWAYS exceptions, but you get my point.)

I don’t know, it still just rubbed me the wrong way. I suppose I’m not alone though, as the comments tended to agree with me. My personal favorite went something along the lines of…having part of your cervix removed and worrying about cancer don’t particularly make you wanna get randy with your man. Ha. Yeah.

Clearly (or at least I’m hoping) this was meant as a joke. I mean, unicorns? Introduce her to Lady Gaga? I guess that’d be cool, yeah, but I’d be more likely to catch you later and go have some coffee (or something alcoholic) with the Gags and chat about life and things…the State of the Union…whatever. Thanks, that was awesome. You’re pretty cool and have some awesome connections…you know Zooey Deschanel, by any chance?

Not to mention the fact that some girls actually just enjoy giving the ol’ blow jay and making their boyfriends feel like they‘re the special guests at the Love Spa.

Do you guys think I’m taking it too seriously? How do you feel? Do you ever find yourself in this kind of situation? Let me know in the comments below.

PS. I still love The Frisky, for the record. Just conflicted on this article.
