The IFC Center tributes filmmaker Bette Gordon with special in-person screenings of her films Luminous Motion, Variety, and her latest release called Handsome Harry. One of the most prominent artists to emerge out of the “No Wave Cinema” underground 1970’s film movement in Tribeca/East Village, she has since won several awards and worldwide festival acclaim. Gordon teaches film at Columbia University’s graduate film division in NYC, is supervisor of the Columbia directing program, and was one of the founders of Tribeca’s first theater- the Collective for Living Cinema.

Bette’s second film recounts a Bonnie and Clyde-esque, mother-son road-trip drama, named one of the best films of the year by a New York Times critic. Introduced by Gordon.
Thursday, April 15th at 7pm- VARIETY (1984)
Gordon’s debut film challenges frequently-held ideas about feminism and pornography through a woman’s journey to self-discovery. Followed by a post-screening panel discussion with Gordon, cast members, and other special guests!
Friday, April 16th- HANDSOME HARRY premiere
Her latest explores explores the male psyche from the perspective of one man’s grief, loss, and loneliness.
