My favorite thing about hearing Samantha Bee do a not-reading in Bryant Park was when somebody asked her what it was like to be a female correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. God bless her pregnant self, she said it was hard. Just like being a man on the show. And I got it on tape. Less than two weeks later Jezebel comes out with a tell-all rant from some disgruntled former employees about what a horrid place the show is for ladies. I was gonna respond because I wanted to believe Ms. Bee, but what if I was wrong? Could she be a corporate shill?
I didn’t think so.
It took a good two weeks, but finally the women of TDS made their comeback. Obvs it took ’em that long to complete the necessary sexual favors to get that thing posted.*
I may be somewhat blind to sexism in the workplace, because, I’ll admit it, I’ll flirt if I think that’ll help me get something I need (though you can bet I swing both ways), but even in the rant on Jez I really didn’t see the sexism part. Except for them calling it sexism. Work is hard. That’s why they call it work. Bee also talked about the show being accommodating to her family schedule. In my book that’s a better indicator than an ex-employee claiming she was too friendly.
