Yo Internet, Imma Let You Finish, But Feminist T-Swift Is the Best Twitter of All Time

by Daisy Becerra

(Of all time!)

When the web gives us wonders like Feminist Ryan Gosling, Feminist Harry Potter, and now the ultra-viral Feminist Taylor Swift account, it seems like the whole cyberverse explodes—and for good reason. Feminist Taylor Swift is probably my favorite parody to come out this year, and it’s all thanks to Brown University student Clara Beyer, whose quest for lyrical justice began like most movements: out of frustration.

As both a fan and critic of Swift’s problematic tunes, Beyer, who identifies herself as a feminist, decided to take her struggle with totally singing along to “22” but totally not being ok with “You Belong with Me” to Twitter. The results have been, well, awesome. Since June 12, Feminist Taylor Swift has accumulated over 77,000 followers, and the numbers keep rising.

Like most feminists, I find myself in the Swift-bind every time “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” plays on the radio. The Feminist Taylor Swift account and its contagious popularity only affirm what everyone’s been thinking all along: Swifty lyrics are incredibly catchy and incredibly wrong. Let’s just hope she gets the message.

And within time, it seems like the country singer might just get that wake-up call. Beyer has just started a Twitter campaign to facilitate a conversation with the real Taylor Swift on The Ellen Degeneres Show. Who wouldn’t want to see that? Check out the Twitter page for more information and while you’re at it, peruse through this collection of our favorite Tweets from the page:

Taylor did get a little Kanye comeback action on her own Twitter yesterday, though nobody’s confirmed that this gem actually came from her and wasn’t a work of Photoshop magic. In any case, no tweeters can compare to @feministtswift. Check her out.
