Mondays can be ruff…and so I bring you Pawesome Movie Posters, a blog dedicated to the heart-warming, face-licking, leg-humping world of canine cinema. Jeana Fucello compiles the best movie posters featuring dogs, and her findings indicate that there are some reoccurring themes present in these furry flicks. For example, even though my own dog doesn’t seem to care much for accessories, Fucello points out that Hollywood dogs love wearing sunglasses:
She also notes common details such as lens flares on the pups’ shades; this DVD cover boasts an impressive three.
Dogs have been involved in law enforcement for a long time; tales of doggie detectives date back to Ancient Greece, and the formal training of dogs for police work started in the late 19th century. Police dogs have since made important contributions to their film genre:

Obviously, everyone knows that dogs love sports. The Air Bud franchise is a testament to the athletic prowess of the Golden Retriever, but dogs have plenty of other hobbies, like treasure hunting, firefighting, and, because not every dog can be a cop, organized crime:

Of course, no one can deny the pervasive power of cats on the Internet, but they seem to take on fewer starring movie roles than dogs do. Fucello makes sure to include the occasional cat movie poster on Caturdays:
But whether you’re a dog person, a cat person, or a Catdog, you can’t deny the power that puppies have over the general populace. That’s why they’re often the subject of hard-hitting “dogumentaries” like the one below:
Admit it: there’s just something about our four-legged friends that puts a smile on the face of even the most hard-to-impress Dogard– er, Godard-loving cinephile. Perhaps the appeal of the canine film canon is best explained by Gary Busey (because really, what isn’t best explained by Gary Busey?) in this interview for Quigley, a classic tale of a man who finds redemption by switching bodies with a Pomeranian:
