Yesterday’s Washington Post report that Trump revealed highly classified information about ISIS intelligence to Russia’s foreign minister and ambassador led to countless responses – but Stephen Colbert’s may be the best.
“Well, ladies and gentlemen, I’ve got good news, and I got bad news. The bad news: The Washington Post reports that Donald Trump revealed highly classified information to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador. O.K.? The good news: Trump found the leaker. He’s fast, he’s fast.”
He continued, “Here’s the deal-io. When Kislyak and Lavrov were in the Oval Office last week, Trump apparently went off script and began describing details about an Islamic State terrorist threat. That is unbelievable. Trump has a script? I don’t believe that for a minute. I need intel on that.”
Colbert added, “The information was so sensitive that the article can’t describe in detail what was said, but one official said, ‘this is code-word information.’ That means that vital aspects of the story have to be replaced with other words. You have to say things like ‘the package has been delivered,’ ‘the squirrel is in the basket,’ ‘the idiot is in the Oval.’”
