Yesterday, Bill O’Reilly was let go from Fox News (about damn time), after yet another woman came forward with sexual harassment accusations against him.
To celebrate the occasion, Stephen Colbert brought back his Colbert Report persona — Conservative Pundit Stephen Colbert — in order to give O’Reilly a proper, tearful goodbye.
“We all saw this coming at us like an old man cornering an intern in the breakroom,” Colbert said.
Colbert addressed the most recent harassment accusation against O’Reilly that was made by a female African American Fox employee. The woman claims the conservative host would “leer” at her and call her “Hot Chocolate.”
“That’s really sexist,” Colbert said. “But remember: it’s also really racist.”
Fox News issued an official statement regarding O’Reilly’s leave, saying, “By ratings standards, Bill O’Reilly is one of the most accomplished TV personalities in the history of cable news.”
“And by moral standards, he was a self-righteous landfill full of angry garbage,” Colbert responded.
Other celebrities were quick to comment on the O’Reilly scandal.
Samantha Bee tweeted an edited version of the host’s official statement:
While the news of O’Reilly’s firing is a notable victory in the fight against conservative misogyny, Colbert acknowledges the many Fox followers currently mourning their loss.
“In case you’re a fan of sexual harassers who are on TV all the time, we still have Donald Trump.”
