Ode To the Saddle Shoe

by Kristina Uriegas-Reyes

Confession: I have a bit of a saddle shoe obsession. In my opinion, there’s nothing not awesome about these old-school lace-ups. They’re super comfy, stylish, and fun in that “sock hop” kind of way. They can elevate a casual look to classic and a dressy look to casual. Add some ruffled socks and we’re totally in business.

Right now, some of the saddle-shoe related cuteness I’m digging is this easy D.I.Y. via Rookiemag.com. I can’t wait to try it!

I’ve also recently gotten into Twin Peaks and am all about Audrey Horne’s saddle shoes!

If you’re ready for a pair of your own, here are some of my favorite options:

I’ve never been a big fan of Payless…until now. I recently found out that they sell these two-tone babies for a mere $19.99! You can’t beat that kind of bargain, shoes-ally. Get your Payless Saddle Oxfords here

Normally, my go-to saddle shoe is by Bass. It’s sturdy, reliable, and so far has lasted me quite a long time. I actually scored mine nearly new at a thrift store, but you can get them on the Bass website in all kinds of great classic colors.

If you want to get funky, I’d recommend the Bass Loves Rachel Antonoff collection, which is chock-full of amazing saddle shoes in a variety of colors and designs. Check out some of my favorites:

Polka dots!! These will be mine someday!

For the ladylike ladies out there, they even have polka-dot heeled versions!

I also recently discovered that ASOS has some adorable options as well.

Dr. Martens even made the saddle shoe all their own with the classic Dr. Martens touch.

These babies from Amazon.com are pretty much the ultimate in “saddle shoe glamour.”

I thought I’d also share a few of my own saddle shoe-inspired looks from Twee Valley High. I can veer into fifties costume territory sometimes, but these shoes feel so playful that they inspire the rest of my look! It’s funny, because back in high school, I wore saddle shoes as part of a uniform. I didn’t think too much of them back then, but somehow, over time, I grew a new appreciation for these classic shoes and have been rocking ’em ever since!

How about you guys? Are you a fan of these sock hop-ready shoes?
