Kathy Griffin Puts Perez Hilton in His Place: Stop Pitting Women Against Each Other!

by Brenda Pitt

Kathy Griffin is far from subtle; seriously, you don’t want to get on her bad side. The saucy comedian will skewer anyone who crosses her with her quick wit and biting tongue. Turns out, she won’t only stick up for herself. Womankind, Kathy Griffin has our backs.

And who has crossed some awesome lady celebs this week? No surprise: Perez Hilton. We all know about that time he totally violated Ke$ha’s privacy by posting intimate pictures of the singer for the whole world to see. In what might have been an equally awful move, Hilton mocked the fabulous Lady Gaga for injuring her hip and not being able to complete her tour; he apparently sent her a picture of a wheelchair with the word “karma” written below.

Perez, why you gotta be so mean??

But something Perez did has finally tipped Kathy Griffin over the edge. She is pissed, and she wrote an awesomely vicious Facebook post that is sure to make Hilton think twice before he speaks trash about the ladies. In a recent Perez Hilton post, Perez compares Gaga’s “Applause” to Katy Perry’s “Roar.” When evaluating the two songs, he pits the two women against one another. In its first week, “Roar” is topping the charts; unfortunately, “Applause” has not been quite as successful. I guess Perez thinks that means Katy Perry defeated Lady Gaga in some imaginary successful-lady battle. Puh-leeease

Griffin puts it best when she writes, “Why is he using the oldest trick in the book and trying to pit women against each other? Lady Gaga’s Applause ‘vs’ Katy Perry’s Roar. Who gives a f***? They are BOTH catchy songs.” Griffin explains that “as a woman and a feminist,” she finds it completely inappropriate for a man to attempt to stir up some sort of cat-fight that these women are obviously too cool to participate in. Get it together, Perez: the old patriarchal trick of turning women against each other is so last century!

The funny girl really puts Hilton in his place, pointing out how completely ridiculous she finds his previous threat of war against her: “for the record, Perez Hilton “declared war” on me […] a few years ago. I believe the quote was ‘It’s war b****’…probably accompanied by a photo of me without makeup with some white jizz pouring out my mouth he had drawn on. Not only did it not ruin me…but if any of you want to find me…you can find me headlining at the Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, and taping my 20th standup special this fall.” He’s not even in his league with these women, and it’s about time he realizes that and stops with the nonsense!
