Today we honor Twitter on it’s 10th birthday. Ahhhh, where has the time gone? It seems like just yesterday the verb “to tweet” was reserved only for the birds. But for the past 10 years people have been able to sign in and read 140 characters of what their friends, celebs, and weird uncles who just discovered “twittering” have been up to.
The invention of Twitter has also opened up a whole new platform for women to express their ideas and support one another.
And since it is a birthday, it seemed rude not to bring a gift. So here you have it, a gift from us at BUST: Our fave feminists for you to follow. And if more illiteration is what you desire, you better fill up your feminist feed.
Ready? Set? FOLLOW!
@hillaryclinton – A follow for Hill is basically a follow for womenkind.
@lenadunham – It’ll feel just like your following Hillary Clinton, but with more dog pictures.
@ilyseh – Her Twitter profile boasts “President of @NARAL Pro-Choice America. Proud Texan. Pastimes include #sharkweek & hound dogs & honey. A rising lady lifts all boats.” *Quality content alert!*
@bellhooks – Author and feminist bell hooks’ feed is all about women’s empowerment. AND she’s crushing on Emma Watson #same.
@crunkfeminists – This account hillariously live-Tweets all your favorite shows and the sas-o-meter is set to high.
@thelindywest – I mean, her book is called SHRILL: Notes From A Loud Woman. Need I say more?
@LadyPJustice – Follow this adorable puppet as she ventures from state to state, protest to protest to stand up for your lady junk.
@amandadecadenet – Creator of the show the Conversation, she posts not only about her interviews with inspirational women but also current events women should be aware of.
@Janefonda – I encourage you to follow Jane Fonda if only to keep up to date on where and when you can buy her 80s workout tapes on DVD. Priorities people.
@margaretcho – Ever wonder what Margaret Cho dreams about?
@SarahKSilverman – Sometimes you just need a gentle reminder that you haven’t loved yourself in awhile.
@jamiaw – An inspirational account that retweets important news stories and interests of feminists everywhere.
@sarahsophief – Sarah Sophie Flicker is the feminist mama we’ve all been waiting for.
@janetmock – If you are looking for inspiration and support, look no further. Janet Mock is all about taking the love and spreading it as far as it can reach.
@GloriaSteinem – And of course, what feminist list would be complete without Gloria.
Obviously, this list could go on for days (We had trouble stopping here!) so please comment with your #FaveFemsToFollow and spread the word about your favorite feminists on Twitter!
