FUCK! I’m In My Twenties: Emma Koenig Speaks For All Of Us

by Erika W. Smith

If you’ve ever been turned down from a shitty food service job you found on Craigslist…

If you’ve ever programmed your ex into your phone as “Don’t Pick Up FO REALZZZ THIS TIME”…

If you instantly hate anyone who asks what you do for a living…

In short, if you’re in your twenties, then this book is for you.

F*CK! I’m In My Twenties by Emma Koenig, based on the popular blog fuckiminmy20s.tumblr.com, takes us through the anxieties and breakdowns of our early 20s with illustrations, graphs, lists, and plenty of f-bombs, despite that wimpy asterisk in the title.

Koenig is one hilarious twentysomething: besides the blog and the book, she wrote and starred in the viral video “Speed Dating” and is working on a TV pilot. She’s also the sister of Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig. What a crazy-awesome family! (Can I marry in?)

F*CK! I’m In my Twenties includes philosophical questions like, “What is the age cutoff for hanging out naked with your friends?” universal statements like, “I am always running out of clean underwear and my cell phone is always dying,” and many complicated charts, such as one detailing the many steps between “just friends” and “in a relationship.”

I (age 21) showed this book to my four recently graduated, overeducated, underemployed roommates (ages 21-24) and we all cracked up over how much this book reflects our sad, pathetic lives.

In one graphic, Koenig draws the ideal “graduation goody bag”: The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Jobs in the Food Service Industry; tissues for tri-daily sobbing spells; Prozac; and a commemorative flask.

Almost perfect – we just need to add a copy of F*CK! I’m In My Twenties to that graduation goody bag, so the unemployed, debt-ridden graduate knows that she is not alone.
