Friday Fun or Fug

by Intern Caroline

It’s a funny time of year. We’re on the cusp of spring and way sick of sluggin’ around in our winter layers. Fashion Month is in full swing, acting as a sort of rejuvenating dose of inspiration to fight the winter bleh’s. Many trendsters take flights of fashion fancy in this transitional time, which can be both good and bad. Let’s decide if these trends are fun or fug.

Embellished Tights

Like I said, it’s the time of year when winter seems interminable and we’re all OVER IT already. Some days I look out the window with my non-thermodynamic eyes and I think It doesn’t look too cold out there, so I foolishly leave the house with bare legs. That’s a mistake every time, ladies! Maybe a pair of bedazzled tights would make this final winter stretch more bearable?  The trend is a tad dated, but I strongly believe the need to twankle and glisten is timeless!

Or maybe they look like a fungal infection? It’s hard to say!

Mid-Finger Rings

I first noticed this trend on the subway. Then it started creeping into my RSS feed. The last straw was when I saw a mid-finger ring gracing the delicate hands of Courtney, my favorite least favorite Bachelor contestant. I guess they look pretty cool if you’re the type to wear a ton of stacked rings. But one of my biggest anxieties is getting rings stuck on my fingers (you know that moment of panic when you try on some heinous cocktail ring at Forever 21 and then it won’t come off and you’re looking around, smiling frantically at all the normal people who don’t have rings stuck on their fingers and trying to remember what it was like to have such a carefree existence? No?) and this trend sort of feeds into that fear in the worst way.

Undone Waves

So the undone wave was all over fashion week and I’m not exactly mad at it. This is what my hair looks like when I don’t do anything to it after a wash. It’d be rad to save time on styling and money on products, but I also have this feeling there’s a reason why I waste time on styling and money on products…

Blanket Wear

On that same note, the New York Fashion Week runways were full of blanket stripes. The cozy, rustic print could be found on every imaginable silhouette in a look I like to call public pajamas.  The second I get home I am wrapped up in a blanket, so it’s nice to know I can start leaving my house that way too.

Kooky Glasses

Last week we shared a story about Rita, one of our favorite Advanced Style subjects, and her eccentric sunnies collection. Turns out she is ahead of the game, as kooky glasses are a hot trend for this spring. Can everybody pull off these far out frames or should they be left to the pros like Rita?

What do y’all think: fun, fug, or both? Weigh in on these trends or others you’ve noticed.
