Scrolling through Instagram can be tiresome when your feed seems to be made up of posts about the latest depressing news stories, memes you’ve seen 1,000 times and selfies of random people you went to high school with. Luckily, if you search hard enough, there are dozens of kick-ass feminist artists whose daily posts are the perfect thing to add a little fire to your feed. In fact, BUST has even featured the artwork of a number of incredible feminist illustrators who share their work via social media, but here’s a few that I have been completley obsessed with as of late.
1. Rebekka (@resaa.art)
While this Instagram artist used to post beautiful black and white portraits with an other-worldly flare, her latest color palette has been cisp oranges, burgundies, and dusty pinks for anyone out there with an all year fall aesthetic.
@Resaa.art’s posts are the perfect pick-me-up for days when you need a little extra reminder to love yourself.
2. Zulfa زلفى (@TheCosmicFeminist)
Zulfa’s feed if full of beautiful neon portraits and positive affirmations. With posts that sport mantras like “Dear World: Stop asking women when they’re having kids,” “Empower yourself to not give a fuck” and “Catcalling is not a fucking compliment,” The Cosmic Feminist is the perfect person to follow to open your metaphorical third eye and empower the activist within you at the very same time.
Zulfa frequently asks questions of her followers that end up inspiring future posts, so you can participate in feminist conversations directly in her comments sections.
3. Robin Eisenberg (@robineisenberg)
Ever want to just jump ship and escape to another galaxy? While space travel for the average civilian is, unfortunately, not possible quite yet, following Robin Eisenberg on Instagram is the next best thing. With eye catching hues of lavender, turquoise, and cotton candy pink, Eisenberg’s sex positive alien ladies make opening the app every day fun.
4. Ashley Lukashevsky (@ashlukadraws)
Ashley Lukashevsky’s feed is the perfect example of activist art on Instagram. Often working with outside organizations such as the ACLU, Lukashevsky has created illustrations in support of queer, indigenous and reproductive rights, just to name a few.
Her posts will have you double-tapping faster than you can say feminist and will leave you smiling for the rest of the day.
5. Pink Bits (@pink_bits)
These totes adorbs nudes are think perfect thing to add a daily dose of pink to your instagram feed. @Pink_bits champions body positivity, positivity, and just about every other kind of positivity you can think of that goes hand-in-hand with women’s bodies.
If you’re ever feeling a little out of sorts or self conscious, this illustrator is the one to go to to make you feel seen.
6. Camila Rosa (@camixvx)
Camila Rosa’s color block portraits are nothing short of bad-ass. You might have seen her work around before, as it has been featured with organizations like @keepfightingnyc, Rebel Girls and hey, look at that, BUST Magazine! Following her will have you feeling ready to smash the patriarchy on the daily.
The brazilian artist has even made an entire story dedicated to illustrations formatted specifically for iPhone wallpaper, so you can get a boost of confidence from her rebel ladies every time you open your phone.
7. Stephanie Deangelis (@steph_angelis)
This Los Angeles based illustrator and designer’s posts are nothing short of calming. While empowering you to enact change at the very same time, her daily posts are the perfect escape for any gal out there with a minimalist aesthetic and appreciation for the magic of womxn.
8. Monica Garwood (@monicagarwood)
This illustrator crafts portraits of empowering women in the most beautiful way possible. The second you get to Monica Garwood’s page you’ll find yourself scrolling through her posts for hours on end. Trust me, I would know.
Not to mention, Garwood illustrated an entire 500 piece puzzle featuring the portraits of suffragettes. Just take my money already!
9. Laura Berger (@_lauraberger_)
Lets add a bit of abstract flare to the mix. Laura Berger’s stunning figures will make you feel link your Instagram feed has just transformed into the MoMA. From the color palette to the beautiful mix of organic and geometric shapes, Berger’s feed will leave you completely and utterly mesmerized.
10. Broobs (@broobs.psd)
And last but not least, meet Broobs. A photographer and collages artist, @broobs.psd takes the portraits of some of the biggest names in feminism and sets them on incredibly colorful and just flat out fun backdrops. From Dolly Parton to Marsha P. Johnson, you’re sure to find your fav icon in their feed.
