100 People Who Have Changed the Lives of Women and Girls Globally

by Janelle

Women Deliver honors 100 of the most inspiring people who have delivered results for girls and women globally. The organization, launched in 2007, is committed to bringing action against maternal death, focusing on maternal health as both a human right and a necessity for sustainable development.

Women Deliver has chosen to recognize those who have dedicated themselves to the improvement of lives for women and girls in celebration with the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day.  All honorees represent many different geographic and cultural backgrounds, as well as many different fields including health, politics, education, and human rights. Selected from hundreds of potential honorees, the top 100 include both men and women, who range from midwives to scientists to journalists.

Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest representation of 26 honorees and 19 are from North America. Inspirational honorees include:

Mahmoud Fathalla, Egypt, Ob/gyn, Former Dean of the Medical School at Assiut University in Egypt, Former President of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) • Working to make sure that no woman dies a needless death in pregnancy or childbirth.
