A Northern Ireland native, 23-year-old Megan Doherty uses photography to transform the tedium of small town living into a mystic, alternate reality where she and her friends thrive in the darkened shadows. Her work captures moments as they come; morphing a fleeting image to create intense, powerful narratives of freedom and desire.
Doherty’s project “Stoned in Melanchol” depicts a youthy sub-culture that is simultaneously illuminated by neon and masked by haze. Portraying the perfect combination of longing and passive acceptance, her project shows the effects of a small town on those wishing to escape.
