The Best Women’s Rights Documentary Ever…Is Coming Soon!

by Katie Fustich

“In the United States of America, all men are created equal. Women? Eh… not so much.”  This is the rallying cry behind filmmaker Kamala Lopez’s newest documentary: Equal Means Equal. Following social justice visionaries like Michael Moore (Sicko) and Morgan Spurlock (Supersize Me), Lopez and company are “journeying across the country to learn what women think about their lives, how/if they want them to change and what difference a constitutional Equal Rights Amendment would have on them.”

The best part? You can help: Kamala Lopez has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise the remaining funds for the film. I’ll fess up: I’ve never bothered donating on Kickstarter and instead always selfishly tucked that dollar into my latte fund. But for this film, I will sacrifice Starbucks for the rest of my life if it means getting this thing into theaters—even just small, smelly ones with lots of gum under the seats.  This film needs to be seen, and to be seen it needs to be made, and to be made it needs just a wee bit o’ help—help that we can all totally give.

Are you still unsure? Watch the trailer and I guarantee that you will be so filled with rage and vitriol at the current state of women’s rights that you will agree: this could potentially be one of the most important and enlightening documentaries in recent memory and we have the power to make it happen
