Have you ever taken a risk with your own personal style, like donning a fashion-forward denim jumpsuit, and your female friends exclaimed compliments in unison while your guy friends silently pondered whether or not you got dressed in the dark that day? There’s a name for that trendy garb you’re wearing—Man repellent.
Runway-savvy fashionista Leandra Medin is the face behind ManRepeller.com, a bible for all things fashionably trendy that Cosmopolitan might describe as “Girl Sexy but not Guy Sexy.” Man repelling, according to Medin, is the act of outfitting yourself in a “sartorially offensive” way with clothing items including, but certainly not limited to, harem pants, boyfriend jeans, overalls, and drop crotch trousers, and not giving a rat’s ass if men find you sexy or not. Among the long list of duds that will leave men running for the hills is “jewelry that resembles violent weaponry”—a trend that I’m currently having a love affair with (I refuse to believe that I’m the only one fantasizing over Jeffrey Campbell Lita Spike boots or DIY studded and spiked, well, everything). If wearing a studded collar repulses men, I couldn’t care less!
The proudly self-proclaimed man repeller, Medin, features everything from photos of eccentric trends, frequently modeled with confidence by the woman herself, to flat out insanity drifting down International runways. And to be clear—the act of repelling men is in no way seen as a negative thing on the sassy fashion blog, but rather, Medin embraces it and shares her expertise and insight into the latest fashion trends, regardless of how the opposite sex might view her, and inspiring confidence in other women to follow her lead.
