New Sailor Moon Episodes to Stream this Winter, BRB Having a Heart Attack

by Mary Grace Garis

If you’re desperately clinging to your childhood like me, then try not to freak out. Pop girl group Momoiro Clover Z just confirmed at a Sailor Moon 20th anniversary event that the long overdue brand new Sailor Moon series is supposed to debut this winter.

Oh. My. Grosh.

First of all, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, SAILOR MOON! You could practically be twinsies with us!

Looking forward to seeing these ladies again. Well, maybe not Chibi Moon so much.

Second of all, this is AWESOME. As we announced last year, the series was SUPPOSED to be airing right meow, but was experiencing some indefinite delays. BUT IT’S OKAY. The series is supposed to be streaming worldwide around December 2013/January 2014

And I, for one, cannot wait. I was a Toonami-watching anime freak as a child (which obviously made me so cool and popular on the playground.) My mom made me a Sailor Moon costume when I was 9, and I would break that out right now if I wasn’t, you know, at the office. My friend even gave me official Sailor Moon earrings for my 22nd birthday, and I wear them whether I’m fighting evil by moonlight or getting sexted at work. I MEAN, winning love by daylight.

“LOL I’M JUST JOKING LUNA, CALM DOWN.”

Sailor Moon is regarded by some as a feminist show (through the retrospective goggles of current 20-somethings) but others don’t see it as such (to be fair, how many episodes did she get saved by Tuxedo Mask at the last second?) HOWEVER, I personally think that it served to stir my very embryonic feminist tendencies. Much like the Spice Girls, formative influences that work to empower young girls are still very important, even if it’s something somewhat mainstream and frilly. My opinion.

What do you think: can Sailor Moon be considered a feminist work? Or do you not buy that? Why or why not? AND HOW EXCITED ARE YOU FOR THIS WINTER?!
