Six Ways To Get Your Glow On This Summer

by Alice Lawton

This summer is all about getting your glow on. Who doesn’t want to look a lil’ sweaty or like they have rolled in gold? A light glow brings a healthy look to the skin while a heavy glow lets you shine. These tips are important to achieving the radiance you desire.

1. Exfoliate

To have glowing skin, you need to start with a good base. Break out your favorite exfoliator and use as directed. I love a good chemical exfoliant like the Kate Somerville ExfoliKate or the Pixi Glow Tonic. Exfoliators, especially chemical ones, will help make your skin smoother and brighter, allowing it to shine.

2. Slather on the SPF

Always protect your skin, people. Though a tan is nice, your skin is so delicate and may easily burn if you don’t apply sunscreen. Even if you don’t burn, don’t think you can’t get skin damage. Every needs SPF. What is the benefit of sunscreen to a glowing look you may ask? Well, SPF reflects light so it will actually make your skin more radiant. If you tend to break out, try a physical sunscreen like the Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Physical Defense. For those who are a bit more casual with their skincare routine, use an easy-to-apply stick like the Palmer’s Eventone Suncare Sunscreen Stick.

3. Bronze it UP

While other early 2000’s trend should probably stay in the past (I’m looking at you, trucker hats), bronzer deserves a place in the now. Bronzer is a quick and easy way to fake the sun’s glow without all that damage. Physicians Formula has about 1000 different bronzers, but many people still go back to thetraditionall Bronzer Booster. For an uber bougie buy thats totally worth the dough try the Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel, a creamy formula that will warm up your face sans glitter.

4. Highlighter

Perhaps the most essential step to being a glowing goddess is the highlighter. Highlighter should be applied as wanted, whether that is just on the highpoints of the face or all over. If high shine is what you desire try a powder highlight like the Anastasia Beverley Hills Glow Kit. For a more natural glow, use a liquid illuminator like the NYX Born To Glow Liquid Illuminator. If you don’t want shimmer, but you still want to look dewy, Glossier’s Haloscope is the product for you. Mix and match different formulations for a truly out there glow. Lighter skin tones should gravitate towards a pearly glow, while dark skin tones should go for gold. A peachy-champagne will suit all.

5. Luscious Lips

Shiny lips aren’t like you remember them, folks. This summer the shiny lip has gotten some sophisticated up dates. Say goodbye to gloss and hello to lip oil! Lip oil has the added benefit of leaving your lips moisturized and with a light stain of color. The Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil is the way to go in three shades perfect for summer. Matte liquid lipsticks have been all the rage the past year and now they come in metallics. The Jouer Long-Wear Lip Crème Liquid Lipstick comes in a number of metallic shades, though I love “Fairy” (pictured above) for a nice summer pop of color.

6. Secure you face

Since you don’t want your glow to melt off your face half way through the day, you need to set it. To keep skin glowing the best way to set your face is using a setting spray. The Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist is a beautiful spray that will keep your skin glowing all day. If you prefer something more natural (and less expensive!) try a rosewater spray like the Heritage Store Rosewater & Glycerin spray. You can even d.i.y. your own! If you have oily skin and must use a powder consider the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder. It will keep your skin matte, but glowing.

With these tips now you can go out and glow out!
