Today marks President Obama’s 55th birthday and his last birthday in the White House. Today, he also wrote a piece for Glamour that talks about why he’s a feminist—he speaks about how far we’ve come, how much work still needs to be done, being a feminist father, the extra scrutiny placed on women of color, and even owns up to allowing a disproportionate amount of the housework and child raising to fall on Michelle when he was building his career. He encourages us to continue challenging gender roles and stereotypes, saying, “Your generation refuses to be bound by old ways of thinking. And you’re helping all of us understand that forcing people to adhere to outmoded, rigid notions of identity isn’t good for anybody—men, women, gay, straight, transgender, or otherwise.” It’s a moving, critical, and aware article that makes us appreciate our 44th President even more. To celebrate him on his special day, here are 10 gifs demonstrating things we love about the man.
