Canada is no stranger to the musical superstardom of female artists like Feist, Emily Haines, Alanis Morissette and Sarah McLachlan, just to name a few. It’s a country that continues to produce musical genius across the board regardless of gender.
Yesterday morning nominations for The Junos, Canada’s music awards, were announced in Toronto. And it comes as no surprise that this year brilliant female artists are represented in almost every category including both artist of the year and album of the year. Hugely talented women like Serena Ryder and Tegan and Sara are being recognized for their musical contributions over the past year.
The Junos will be held in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the end of March and we will no doubt have the opportunity to see some of Canada’s finest female artists not only take home awards for their talents, but also watch them rock out as a number of acts will perform live on stage that evening.
And if you’re anything like me, Serena Ryder’s hit Stompa from her album Harmony, was this year’s anthem over Robin Thicke’s controversial single Blurred Lines. It will be pretty great to see who takes the maple syrup-drenched cake next month as both are nominated for Artist of the Year.
