Where’s Your Money Going?

by Web Intern

Have you ever tried tracking what you spend your money on? It seems like every financial planner suggests keeping track of the number of lattes you buy, as well as keeping your receipts so you know exactly where your $$$ is going.

Well, Kate Bingaman-Burt takes this financial tracking to a whole new level–she draws what she purchases and then posts the images on her blog Obsessive Consumption: What Did You Buy Today? She also prints out a zine with these same purchases and sells prints of them (I read in the latest issue of Bitch that a guy who was head over heels for soft tacos just needed her print of one). If drawing what you purchase doesn’t make you think twice about what you spend your money on, I don’t know what will.

Along with that, Virginia Sole-Smith from ReadyMade Magazine is trying to keep track and limit what she buys. She’s allowing herself only 5 bucks a day to drastically cut back on her spendaholic ways and to become a more mindful shopper. 35 bucks a week, I don’t think I would be strong enough for that.

I think I should hop on this tracking-my-spending bandwagon. I am not a coffee drinker, nor have a magazine addiction, but can feel my daily soda fix and love for cutesy things giving my wallet a pounding.
