Need a mid-june feminist booster shot? Get those creative wheels turning and your blood pumping with the Brooklyn Museum’s Reflections on the Electric Mirror: New Feminist Video exhibition . It’s been open since May and will run through January, and focuses on new videos by feminist artists who continue the tradition of their 70’s counterparts.
Cathy Begien (American, b. 1975). Still from Black Out, 2004.
‘The videos…show varied approaches from humor to intense revelation. Thematic threads include the embrace of media appropriation and parody; repetition of self-imposed tasks; and rebelliousness–the lashing out of society and the self.’ Radical! The exhibition is on the 4th floor of the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art. Get directions and admission info here. -Devan
