BREAKING NEWS: FDA Head Makary’s Spine Still Missing
For the millionth time: MEDICATION ABORTION IS SAFE AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT! Including FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary, who is stalling the agency’s review of Mifepristone… until after the midterm elections. As Makary is very clearly aware, the majority of Americans support abortion access, and conservatives are scared shitless about losing even more elections than they already have this year. So instead of, idk, not taking junk science seriously and admitting that abortion is safe, they’re just going to hide their evil plans in the back of the closet until no one is looking. Cool cool cool cool cool.
Indiana Court Blocks The State From Releasing Abortion Patient Info
In a win for patient privacy, an Indiana appeals court upheld an order blocking the Indiana Department of Health from releasing “terminated-pregnancy reports” (TPRs), which detail doctor reports on individual abortions in the state. TPRs include information like names, procedure dates, and age, among other potentially-identifying information in a state with so few abortions performed. The lawsuit was brought by Dr. Caitlin Bernard and Dr. Caroline Rouse, both Indianapolis OB-GYNs; you may recognize Dr. Bernard’s name from the traumatizing 2023 case of a pregnant 10-year-old child who needed abortion care, which she publicly discussed.
The real kick in the dick? As was referenced in the decision written by Judge Mark Bailey, Dr. Bernard was REPRIMANDED by the state Medical Licensing Board for publicly discussing that child’s abortion, yet Indiana wants to just turn around and publicly release all of the same damn data from every abortion?! Anti-abortion hypocrisy knows no bounds!
Hyde or Die Trying, We Guess?
Prominent anti-abortion haters Susan B. Anthony (SBA) Pro-Life America is urging Congress members to not vote to extend Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies unless it includes punishing low income folks who need abortion coverage. They are insisting that any deal must include renewal of the Hyde Amendment, a federal law barring federal funding for abortions since 1976, and disproportionately affecting people already facing systemic barriers to care. So in addition to our current healthcare hellscape, SBA wants YOUR legislators to let ACA premium tax credits lapse and YOUR health insurance premiums skyrocket unless they can keep restricting abortion access from those on Medicaid, Medicare, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)!
We’re no experts, Susan B. Anthony, but “spend more money, get less rights” doesn’t seem like a winning strategy.
