Ted Cruz released a new campaign ad called “Conservatives Anonymous.” It doesn’t show conservatives trying to tell harrowing stories of their struggles to give up their conservative lifestyle, it is a bunch of white people talking about how they have been lied to by Republicans past. Actress Amy Lindsay is the only woman in the ad with a line, and she happens to have also worked in softcore porn.

The ad has since been yanked from the air in a maneuver that unabashedly slut shames Lindsay, who got the job based on her performance in an open casting call. “She passed her audition and got the job. Unfortunately, she was not vetted by the casting company. Had the campaign known of her full filmography, we obviously would not have let her appear in the ad. The campaign is taking the ad down and will replace it with a different commercial,” Cruz spokeswoman Catherine Frazier told the New York Times. This statement cleary says she did well in the audition and was hired based on her talent, but if they had bothered to check her IMDb page she would not have even been considered because nothing could tarnish the good Cruz name like softcore porn.
Extremely disappointed the #TedCruz campaign pulled the national television spot I had a role in… @CNN @Foxnews #moretocome #myvotecounts

Lindsay’s previous work is listed on her profile on IMDb, clearly showing she isn’t embarrassed (not that she should be) or hiding anything. It should be noted that the actress does not only have a background in softcore porn, she has also appeared in shows including Star Trek: Voyager, Pacific Blue and Guinevere Jones. This lady has put in the TV spot miles working in both softcore and fully-clothed TV roles. To pull the ad because of work she has done and is clearly available with a quick google is shaming and probably causing more damaging attention than just leaving it on the air.
Not that I’m shocked someone as bad for women as Ted would participate in such blatant slut-shaming, but it is still disappointing that a woman is being punished for performing in soft-core porn and her talent and impressive resume are being over looked. I stand on team Amy Lindsay because it is bullshit that this ad would be removed on the premise of an actress’s past work.
