With her haunting lyrics and raw, melodic voice, the NYC-based musician Sophie Strauss is a force to be reckoned with and we are so excited to finally debut the official music video for “In The Freezer,” one of the tracks off of her debut EP Yeah No Fine.

The video, equal parts witchy and wonderful, works perfectly with Strauss’s emotional energy. As she sings about her own longing and neuroses, splashes of gold and pink paint and dainty illustrations dance around her. Although this pop song is on the sadder side, Sophie knows how to keep it light with confetti and her brightly colored vintage dresses, giggling as she brushes her hair and plays with a black cat.

“‘In the Freezer’ is a jumble of all the miscommunications and misfires that happen in a relationship and the strange ways we try to recover from them,” Sophie explains. She knows how to toe the line between frustration and heartbreak while avoiding all of the clichés of the sad pop song. “If you feel reckless / well I’m doing something right,” she sings, tracing tattooed fingers down somebody’s leg.

You can buy and stream the rest of Yeah No Fine on Sophie’s Bandcamp. We’re absolutely in love with this magical music video. You can check it out below:
