With the coming release of Whip It! on October 9th, it seems everyone is struck with roller derby fever. If you live in the New York area, come see our very own Manhattan Mayhem duke it out with Bronx Gridlock on August 8th. More info on them can be found here.
Both teams have admirably able members, Bronx Gridlock with star jammers Bonnie Thunders, Beatrix Slaughter, and Luna Impact (MVP of the July 11th bout against the Brooklyn Bombshells) and devastating blockers such as Ginger Snap and Kandy Kakes. Meanwhile Mayhem has co-captains Sweet Sherry Pie and Fisti Cuffs, sophomore jammer Em Dash, and blockers Surly Temple, Polly Gone, Miss American Thighs, and GalXC. Roller derby monikers, by the way, are beyond awesome.
For fans of both Robot Chicken and roller derbies, the two have teamed up for Robot Chicken on Wheels ’09 Tour, where anyone can roller skate for free with Seth Green, Breckin Meyer, Matthew Senreich, and of course, the Gotham Girls. There’ll also be a performance by Gym Class Heroes, so this event is a must. This all goes down on August 13th and you can find more deets here. -Sylvie
