Reasons To Be Pretty

by Emily Rems

Playwright Neil LaBute’s work tends to be somewhat controversial, especially among feminists (you may remember the flap over In The Company Of Men). Maybe that’s why publicists for his newest work to premiere here in N.Y.C., Reasons To Be Pretty, are extra-curious about what our take will be on his latest story about America’s obsession with physical beauty. To that end, myself and a writer for Ms. magazine have been invited to attend a performance of the show on Tuesday night, June 24th, and will be leading a talk-back afterwards where we’ll engage in a spirited debate with the audience about the good, the bad, and the ugly, of Pretty. Wanna join in? If so, you can take advantage of the special discount for BUST blog readers below:

"Greg’s tight-knit social circle is thrown into turmoil when his off-handed remarks about a female co-worker’s pretty face (and his girlfriend’s lack thereof) get back to said girlfriend.  But that’s just the beginning.  As their relationship crumbles, their friends are pulled into the fray, and all are forced to confront a sea of deceit, infidelity, and betrayed trust in their journey to answer that oh-so-American question: How much is pretty worth?"
