If you made it over to the BUST Holiday Craftacular in Greenpoint,New York this past Saturday, you might have been lucky enough to get down with some adorable cats from Sean Casey Animal Rescue in our Cat Café sponsored by David’s Tea. But now—a week from now, to be exact—you will be able to release your inner cat lady any time you want (for $4 per half hour, booked online). Manhattanites are finally getting the cat café we have so longed for and deserve. Eater reports that Meow Parlour will open at 46 Hester Street on December 15th.
A Cat Café in Montreal Meow Parlour is the first of its kind in NYC, bringing us the kind of establishment that started, as their website states, “in Asia in the 90s due to small apartments with landlords that didn’t allow pets in the residences.”. With that kind of reasoning, I’m surprised it’s taken us this long!
The two awesome ladies running the place are Christina Ha, Co-Founder and Head Pastry Chef of Macaron Parlour, and Emilie Legrand, one of Macaron Parlour’s first kitchen employees. So fear not, for Meow Parlour will certainly have macarons. What goes with cat cuddles better than macarons?!
Meow Parlour will be open from noon to 8 p.m. daily, except Wednesdays. Maybe go after work one day and give yourself a whole new outlook on the concept of happy hour. I will be there opening day, armed with a bag full of Benadryl and eye drops—allergies be damned!
Let’s not forget the most important part of the cat café: all the cats come from the no kill, all volunteer rescue Kitty Kind, and they are all adoptable! So if you’re looking to be adopted by a cat, this will be the perfect place to find your next pal. If you’re apprehensive to start a feline relationship you can use Meow Parlour to test the waters.
In short, run don’t walk! A good thing is happening.
