No Oven, No Problem | 5 Desserts You Can Make In A Mug

by Holly Trantham

What’s not to love about a mug dessert? They are (or at least can be) delicious, kind of feel like actual cooking, and require very minimal cleanup. Plus, they’re perfect for those nights when you are just not having this weather (we feel for you, Bostonians). Here are five recipes we’re kind of in love with. Warning: they are almost too easy to make. Be sure you have backup ingredients for round #2.

  1. “The One” Chocolate Cake

The best single-serve microwave chocolate cake we’ve come across. Pro tip: this one isn’t sweet enough for some of us, so double the sugar or add chocolate chips if you’re so inclined!
  2. Sugar Cookie in a Cup

Better than any mall cookie you’ve had. If you don’t have vanilla, Grand Marnier (or any liqueur) makes a great substitute (and a super fun cookie!).
  3. Coffee Cake in Less than Five

The ease of this recipe is a great excuse to make dessert for breakfast.
  4. Pumpkin Pie in a Mug

“Easy as pie” is one of the few idioms that really holds up—this quick and delicious treat is no exception. Who says pumpkin is just for the fall?
  5. Very Vanilla Cake

Because sometimes you just want decadent simplicity of wedding cake without actually having to go to a wedding or like…get married.
