Come around to Brooklyn this weekend for the Animation Block Party, New York’s premiere animation festival. This collection of animated shorts prooves cartoons aren’t just for kids, or Saturday mornings.

Friday’s events will be held at Rooftop Films on the lawn of Automotive High School, or inside if it’s raining. The fun is kicked off at 8:30 with live music by Teen Girl Fantasy, then the films start at 9. After the post-screening filmmaker Q&A, follow the crowd to Bar Matchless for a celebratory open bar.

The rest of the weekend will have two programs each day. Saturday and Sunday’s programs will be at BAM . Saturday’s after party is at the 4th Avenue Pub and Sunday’s is at Cafe Habana .Each evening is only $9 to get in (you can purchase them online or at the door). A full schedule of films can be seen here .

But that’s not all! Saturday will also present video artists’ Nakadate’s first full length feature film. It’s a ‘hilarious and horrifying work starring a series of teenage girls in their own rooms and clothes, in a world in which the banal becomes extreme and the normal is infused with a chronic and discomforting strangeness.’ Intrigued? Join the party at the Old American Can Factory. Stars Like Fleas will be playing at 8:30 and the film will start at 9. There is a reception following the screening with free sangria in the courtyard.-Celeste
