Nerd Girls’ Night Out

by Emily Rems

Taking a book club and turning it into an all-girl, reading-inspired, song-fest? What will they think of next? Once I peeped these deets below on nonsense nyc , I was hooked (though it would be cool if they added some women writers to the mix in 2009, doncha think?):

Bushwick Book Club – Tuesday, Jan 6

Unparalleled songwriting nerdery. Local songwriters Phoebe Kreutz, Chloe Matheou, Liv Carrow, and Susan Hwang perform songs inspired by, and based on, Kurt Vonnegut’s Breakfast of Champions. Book-themed food and drink are served, and audience members are encouraged to give in to any Vonnegut-inspired impassioned outbursts.

The Bushwick Book Club meets the first Tuesday of every month at Goodbye Blue Monday to rejoice in book-inspired music from the most talented songwriters in the area. February: Raymond Carver’s What We Talk About When We Talk About Love. March: Edwin Abbott’s Flatland.
